an untimely gift guide

Welcome to this untimely gift guide. This is definitely untimely, as in, it is nowhere near a gift giving season of any sort, but I hope it will come in useful anyway! However for me personally, there are a lot of gift giving occasions fast approaching, mainly birthdays, so I thought I'd compile a list of things that may either give you some inspiration for future gift giving or even some inspiration on what to add to your own birthday or christmas list this year (I know I shouldn't be talking about Christmas in April, but it's somehow already April, so I'm sure December will be back again before we know it). None of these gifts are groundbreaking by any means, but I think they are all really lovely, and can either be catered to those who you are close with to give them a more personal touch, or can be found super easily and last minute for when you have no idea what to get someone.

#1 Plants

Plants are honestly the best gift in my opinion. They're something I often buy for myself, but it would be lovely a wonderful gift to receive as they're something that bring so much life to a space. I love this idea, because it is so customisable to whomever you are gifting it to. From the type of plant, whether it be a monstera, a cactus, a succulent or air plant, to the pot. There are so many different things you can do. You could DIY a terrarium with an air plant or a hanging plant, buy a cute designer pot for someone and pot something in it yourself, or my personal favourite, hand make and paint a pot. I love making or buying concrete pots and painting them with cute designs myself. I feel like this is a perfect way to give something so simple a personal touch. Super easy but effective!

#2 Jewellery & Accessories

I feel like this is such a classic gift, and it's classic for a reason. It's something special, but wearable, and a lovely way to wear a reminder of a special milestone or event. There are jewellery pieces to suit every age and every style. The idea of hand making some resin or clay jewellery is also a lovely idea (note to self: try this sometime).

This gift is also one that can be personalised really easily. Get a watch or necklace engraved, or choose colours and shapes suited to who you're buying for. Show your attention to detail by picking pieces you know they will wear and love. Ask yourself if they are a gold or silver person? do they prefer dainty or statement jewellery? There's really no going wrong with this gift.

#3 Luxury makeup

This gift doesn't have to be solely for makeup fiends. I for one, have a very minimal makeup collection, most of which consists of drug store makeup. Pictured above are two makeup products I have received as gifts in the past, and I am obsessed with them. A lip product is a perfect idea, something you can have for a while and won't run out of in an instant. Of course you don't have to purchase products from a luxury brand, but I love how special it makes the gift. The packaging and wrapping makes it seem more thought out and unique, rather than just handing over a tube of lipstick. You can never go wrong with a red or a dusty pink, they suit almost every skin tone.

#4 Sunglasses

It's no secret that I am a sunglass fanatic. I can't get enough. Not only are they my favourite accessory, but they also make the most perfect gift, and just like the previous suggestions can be completely personalised to who you're buying for. The cost, style, colour, brand are all up to you and all are easily accessible, making them the perfect gift idea. I recently picked up this pair from Bec & Bridge X Pared eyewear, and I'm in love with them. The quality is amazing and they come in the cutest box, which could definitely save you some wrapping time if you just tie a bow around it! A more expensive pair of sunglasses is something special and something you wouldn't normally buy for yourself (unless you have afterpay and a spending problem like me of course), making it the perfect gift! You can really tailor the style, shape and colour to the person you're buying for which i love about this idea.

#5 Magazine subscription

Or, the gift that keeps on giving, as I like to call it. Not really, but it is true. What could be better than purchasing a $10 magazine every month?? Having it delivered to your door of course. I currently have a subscription to RUSSH magazine, it only cost me about $90 for 2 years (12 issues) which includes a free gift! I also don't need to leave the house to pick up a copy, or worry about it being sold out. Amazing. I think this is perfect for someone who you know regularly reads a particular fashion magazine or any type of magazine really. Cooking, DIY's, science, you could honestly choose anything your gift receiver is passionate about!

#6 Perfume/Cologne

Last but not least, I also wanted to include something unisex in this list. Of course I'm sure guys would appreciate a cool plant or a nice watch. But cologne is something that's so easy to gift, and it's something you know they will actually use! Solid State reached out to me on instagram and ever so kindly gifted me this solid cologne to share with you all. I think this is such an amazing idea. The cologne is in balm form, and the packaging is super minimal, sleek and small. Perfect to fit into a pocket or even wallet. I love how practical this gift is, and it smells incredible. Side not, can we talk about how much longer lasting mens' scents are than women's, i swear they last for days on end, whereas a perfume will last 5 minutes if I'm lucky, someone please give me answers. All jokes (or attempts at jokes) aside, I think this product is the perfect for any guy, it's inexpensive, smells amazing, and also comes in super nice packaging, making it really easy to gift to someone. If you are unsure what to get your boyfriend (or if you're single as anything like me; your dad), definitely check out solid state! And for the ladies, well, we all know that perfumes are a fail safe, but a solid option could also be a cool twist on this classic gift. I know you can find solid perfumes at the likes of Diptyque, Glossier, Dior, Lush, the list goes on.

I'm hoping this was somewhat helpful, and if not, that you enjoyed my fancy imagery!

Until next time, Sim
