I'm sure by now we are all aware of my love of thrifting. It's so incredibly satisfying being able to find trendy pieces, that are really unique, and for the best prices! Since this entire outfit (minus the shoes and sunnies) is thrifted. I thought I'd dedicate todays post to some pre and post thrifting tips!

...................................Pre-thrift ...................................
#1 Find inspiration.
Before a major thrifting session I will always have a look on instagram, pinterest and online shops to get some inspiration. I'll take screenshots and keep these images on my phone as a reference. I find this helps me keep an open mind whilst searching and I can imagine pieces styled in certain ways similar to my reference images. Of course, don't go in with the mindset that you're going to find exact dupes for these items. You're not. But you can definitely find some similar pieces, and pieces that give off the same vibe!
#2 Wear an outfit that is easy to change in and out of
I tend to wear some culottes and easy zip on boots and a tee when I go thrifting. It's super easy to change out of when trying on clothes. Because when thrifting, it's really hard to tell what things are going to look like and sizes are all over the place! So trying things on is ESSENTIAL, and you might miss out on a great find if you can't be bothered trying it on!! So definitely think about this before you go!
...................................Post-thrift...................................
#3 Get items tailored.
Yes, the benefit of going to the thrift store is that items can be super inexpensive! I used to get caught into the trap of leaving ill fitting items behind, even if they were really cool, or buying ill fitting items, and then letting them sit in my wardrobe because I would never wear them. Honestly, get things tailored!! It makes such a difference. Yes it does cost a few extra dollars, but most things such as hems, waist bands, etc can be fixed for $10 or so. It has made so much difference to the amount of wear I am able to get out of my thrifted items, that it's completely worth it to get items tailored! The jeans I've styled in this post for example; they fit me perfectly on the legs, but the waist was way too loose, so I just got the waist taken in and now I have a pair of jeans that fit me perfectly, and were still less expensive than a pair you'd buy from a retail store! It's a win-win.
#4 Think outside the box.
The way you style an item can definitely change up an entire outfit. Get creative and think of ways you can wear your thrifted items to make them look different and trendy. The top in this post for example, is actually just a simple satin button up shirt. I've tucked in the collar, put it on back to front, and tied it at the back, to give a high-neck, open-back look to the shirt! It looks completely different!
I love the way thrifting allows me to explore and experiment with my style so easily, and if something doesn't work out, just donate it again! The items are only a few dollars after all!
Happy thrifting lovers, until next time
