Hello!! I'm back today with another style post.
The star of today's blog post is the humble slip dress. An absolute wardrobe staple in my opinion and something that can be worn all year round for almost any occasion.

#1. The 'I have no idea what to wear to this event."
Perhaps the most basic way of styling a slip dress. It is as a failsafe option for any fancy event where you are unsure of what to wear, or when you have managed to get tomato sauce on the outfit you were planning to wear, whilst having a pre-event snack. (true story) Add some cool heels and a red lip and you have the perfect fail safe party or event look. An absolute life saver if you are anything like me and have at least 3 break downs about what you're going to wear before going out.

#2. The "I'm a fashion blogger"
Basically, if you have ever been on instagram for more than 3 minutes, I can assure you have seen some variation of this outfit before. But for good reason, it is comfortable, chic and looks great on the gram. What's not to love? Here I've styled my slip dress with a vintage blazer and some classic white sneakers for an effortlessly chic look that makes me feel like I should find a cool brick wall and take an #ootd photo.

#3. The "I don't feel like wearing pants"
90% of the time you will find me in jeans and a t-shirt. But the rest of the time, my favourite jeans are in the wash, or I simply do not want to put pants on. Generally if I'm going anywhere that I'm going to be sitting down a lot of the time (uni or out for lunch for example), jeans just aren't my best friend, and I would much rather wear something that is not restricting in the slightest. The slip over a tshirt, still gives you that same casual cool look of the classic jeans and tee combo, but you can enjoy a massive lunch without having to undo your top button in the car on the way home. A winner in my books.

#4. The "I'm wearing my non-existent boyfriend's shirt"
I think the thing I miss most about having a boyfriend is that you basically get an extended wardrobe. Why buy your own oversized tees and shirts, when you can just 'borrow' theirs??? Well, if you seem to be repelling men in the same way as me, the op shop is the next best thing. This thrifted men's shirt is the perfect way to add a masculine touch to something super feminine, such as a slip dress. I love the contrast between the crisp, structured shirt and the flowy silhouette of the slip. I added some backless loafers to finish this androgynous look. Obsessed.

#5. The "I'm feeling confident"
Not going to lie, this look is a little bit out of my comfort zone. But I think layering something unexpected under a slip dress can give off a really cool feel! This mustard linen shirt is the perfect way to add a unique silhouette and a nice texture to an otherwise simple layered look. I would definitely wear this outfit to a concert or a festival with some lovely combat boots, which I was evidently too lazy to put on for this photo.

#6. The "I have a million things to do today"
This outfit is basically socially acceptable pj's. You're literally wearing a nighty and a sweater and it looks cute??? amazing. Layering an oversized sweater over a slip dress gives the most effortless of looks, pair it back with sneakers and you have the perfect practical outfit for running errands or heading to the supermarket. Plus you don't even have to worry about bumping into anyone you know, because you still look cute as hell without compromising on comfort. Win, win.

#7. The "I am in denial about it getting colder"
The perfect look for when you just aren't ready to let go of your summer pieces, but you would rather not get frostbite from stepping outside. Layers, layers and layers are key for taking your spring/summer pieces into autumn/winter. You can basically make your slip dress double as a midi skirt, but adding a chunky knit on top and some killer ankle boots. Look no further for the perfect wintery, but still fashion forward transitional look.

#8. The "It's hot but I refuse to shave my legs"
On the complete opposite end of the weather spectrum, slip dresses are perfect for those toasty days when you're not feeling up to wearing a little mini dress. You can still be relatively covered up, but the flowiness of the fabric still allows for the perfect amount of ventilation on a hot summers day.

So as you can probably tell by now, there are literally endless ways of styling a slip dress, and it is definitely one of the most versatile pieces you can own. I hope you found a bit of inspiration from this post and it was somewhat enjoyable to read!!
Until next time, Sim xx
